Lowan, a telepathic alien working as a radio repairman, observes an argument between his client and another man. When his client is murdered, and the Chief of Police is framed, he embarks upon his first investigation.

Meanwhile, Detective Lieutenant Marx transfers to the Milford Falls Police Department after a long absence from the city. His first day back is anything but what he expected. If Chief Benson–the only one willing to give him a chance–is arrested for murder, Marx won’t have a job by the end of the day.
